- -After 90 days a worker became a union member
- 20% of workers had to be a minority under union policy
- Detroit Northwestern HS. (where he attended) 1972-65% african american students, 1978-90% AA students
- 90% of his friends parents worked at/for an automobile related company
- In 1977 the pay per hour was $7.50 for union members
- North end along with east side was majority all White
- Central part of city was all Black
- Bars were located across the street from the factories
- Black workers would carpool with other blacks/ white with whites
- Blacks and whites would work side by side and there was rarely racial tension.
- Whites an blacks played on different bowling teams, were members of different lodges, and attended different churches.
- At school most white kids played sports with other white kids and blacks played with other blacks
- The two races came together under the union. They both benefited under new contracts so there was never any ill feelings towards one another in contract negotiations.
